Eagle Cap Shooters Association Newsletter, Oct. 2007

Tom Crooks (432-2580)–Editor

Next meeting: Tuesday, 7:00PM, 13 Nov. ( 2nd Tuesday of the month)

Wallowa Properties Office Conference Room, Enterprise

Range Work: There has been no interest expressed for the construction of a 10'x12' Registration Booth at the gate, nor has anyone come forward to volunteer donations of lumber, labor, or cash for this project.  Bob Reading contacted me recently about providing a propane fired, trailer mounted 15 KW generator for use during events to power the range house and any other appliances we need electricity for. The generator is not meant to sit outside unprotected and will require some kind of shelter. Again, this is something that is going to require donations of time, building materials and cash to construct. You may contact me at 432-2580 if you want to be involved in either the registration booth, the generator house or both.

Duncan Hunter has completed and submitted the NRA Foundation Grant request for $9600. If we get these funds, it will provide enough for the rifle range back stops (6 foot high earth berms at 100, 200 &300 yards), information signs on the range, and two chemical toilets (1 regular and 1 handicap accessible).

Floyd McCadden has set up a super nice shooting bench on the small bore/pistol range with Trex decking top and seat. The range has two target stands set in place at 100 yards and distances of 12.5, 25, 50 and 75 yards have been staked and flagged. There is a simpler pipe leg shooting bench with stool also in place, set up by Dave Kuhlman. Thank you Floyd and Dave. If you are going to use this range, bring a stapler to put backing cardboard on the 100 yard stands and please clean up your used targets when done shooting. There is a supply of large cardboard sheets in the range house.

Third Sunday Monthly Shoot: The November Third Sunday shoot is scheduled for 1:00 to 4:00 PM, the 18th . No event has been planned at this point. If you want to sponsor a shoot, no matter how simple, contact Eric Kozowski at 432-2214 to schedule it. Otherwise, it will just be an open range afternoon for those interested in shooting. An RSO will be needed to assist shooters. Contact Eric to volunteer. The December shoot will be on the 16th from 1:00 to 4:00PM sponsored by myself and will be a meat shoot event. If you want to help, I would appreciate it.

The 3nd Annual Machine Gun Shoot: At present it has not been scheduled. This is an item for the Association Directors and Membership to take a look at during the next meeting and decide when it is going to happen. Whatever date is selected, it is not too early to start planning. Contact Eric Kozowski if you want to have a part in this great annual event.

Classes: A NRA Range Safety Officer Course will be scheduled as soon as we have 10 or more individuals committed to take the course. Contact Duncan Hunter at 569-2008 for additional information. Remember, this gives you unlimited access to the range and any time you spend as an RSO counts toward the reduction of next year’s dues. Twelve hours donated time gives you a reduction of 50% dues.

Dues for 2008: It is time to start thinking about renewing your membership. Dues are payable anytime through November and December–$55 for an individual, $75 for a couple and $100 for a family. If you have already put in 12 hours of work for the Association during 2007, these figure are reduced by half. Send your check to Doug Batten, ECSA Treasurer, PO Box 928, Joseph, OR 97846

Election of Officers: Election of several Board Positions, Secretary and President are scheduled for the December meeting. A nomination committee must be organized at the next meeting to come up with a slate of candidates. At this point, no one has expressed an interest in serving in any of the "to be vacated" positions. Without officers, the Association dies. The range will be turned back to the James family and any money in the treasury goes to Wallowa County.

The Newsletter: The December newsletter will be the last one I put together. If anyone is interested in picking up the reins, contact me and I will provide any assistance needed. I also have the stamps, mailing list, and address stamp to pass on to the new editor.  If no one steps forward, the new President will be the lucky recipient of these articles.

Advertising: Wanted–.22 single shot rifle for use with shot cartridges for snuffing English Sparrows who need potty training. Tom Crooks–432-2580
