Eagle Cap Shooters Association Newsletter, Nov. 2007
Tom Crooks (432-2580)–Editor
Next meeting: Tuesday, 7:00PM, 11 Dec. ( 2nd Tuesday of the month)
Wallowa Properties Office Conference Room, Enterprise
Dues for 2008: It is time to renew your Shooting Association membership. Dues are now due–$55 for an individual, $75 for a couple and $100 for a family. If you have already put in 12 hours of work for the Association during 2007, these figure are reduced by half. Send your check to Doug Batten, ECSA Treasurer, PO Box 928, Joseph, OR 97846.
PLEASE NOTE: YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE A SEPARATE NOTE, BILL OR REMINDER IN THE MAIL.
Election of Officers: Election of several Board Positions, Secretary and President are scheduled for the December meeting. A nomination committee consisting of John Joyce and Duncan Hunter is working to come up with a slate of candidates. If you have an interest in the Association continuing to exist in the County, contact either John (432-3808) or Duncan (569-2008) prior to the December meeting.
The Newsletter: The December newsletter will be the last one I put together. No one has expressed an interest in putting together the monthly ECSA newsletter for 2008. Contact me at 432-2580 if you want to get in on the ground floor of this hot journalistic endeavor–operators are standing by.
Third Sunday Monthly Shoot: The December Third Sunday shoot (The Ed Brazelton Annual Shoot) is scheduled for 1:00 to 4:00 PM, on the 16th. I will sponsor the shoot and will be providing meat prizes for the event. As envisioned, there will be a simple shooting schedule consisting of a variety of easy targets at close range, using .22 rimfire rifles. I would like to have a turkey as the aggregate high score prize and lesser meat products (ham, chicken, bacon, etc.) for 2nd, 3rd, and so on. Everything will be shot off hand with no restriction on sights or equipment—if it is a .22 rimfire rifle, it’s good.
If there are any members who would like to help, either by assisting in the planning, setting up, or donation of prizes, contact me at 432-2580. Of course, if there is a howling blizzard or even a mild spring breeze, we will run for the hot stove in the Range House. If there is enough interest, I will provide a stew pot and ask for a donation of canned stew from each participant to throw in the pot for a late lunch. Crackers and cheese, plus cookies and coffee to wash things down with would be good things to bring to share. Contact me if you wish to participate in the stew pot (or chili pot if stew isn’t the menu of choice) and/or coffee, otherwise we’ll forget the eating/drinking and just shoot.
Fall Turkey Season: At the November meeting, the Association members voted to query the OR Fish and Wildlife Department regarding the possibility of a Fall Turkey hunt in Wallowa County. If this is something you are interested in seeing, writing individual letters to the Department would certainly be of assistance in making this go.
The 3nd Annual Machine Gun Shoot: The event is now scheduled for the weekend of 7 and 8 June 2008. Contact Eric Kozowski if you want to get a piece of the action in this great annual event.
Range Work: There has been no progress on any of the range projects.
Classes: A NRA Range Safety Officer Course will be scheduled as soon as we have 10 or more individuals committed to take the course. Contact Duncan Hunter at 569-2008 for additional information. Remember, this gives you unlimited access to the range and any time you spend as an RSO counts toward the reduction of next year’s dues. Twelve hours donated time gives you a reduction of 50% dues.
Advertising: If you have anything you wish to sell, purchase, give away, etc., this is the place for getting the word out to all of the members.
Wanted: An inexpensive .22 single shot (or multi shot) rifle for use with shot cartridges for snuffing English Sparrows who need potty training. They need to have things explained to them before Christmas, if possible. Tom Crooks–432-2580
