Eagle Cap Shooters Association Newsletter, 29 Jan. 2007

Tom Crooks (432-2580)–Editor

Next meeting: Tuesday, 7:00PM, Feb 13, ( 2nd Tuesday of the month)

Wallowa Properties Office Conference Room, Enterprise

Reminder: 2007 Dues are due. Note: You will not receive a bill. Please make out a check to ECSA and mail to PO Box 928, Joseph, OR 97846. Current dues are: Individual–$55, Couple–$75, Family–$100 and Youth (under 18)–$25. If you can document the donation of 12 hours to Association activities in 2006, these costs are reduced by one-half for adults. Youth members need to have donated 8 hours work to receive this reduction.

Monthly Shoot: January’s shoot resulted in more attendees than in December, but only 8 shooters. Lots of watchers, apparently waiting for the big bucks to come out before showing their stuff. The aggregate was won by "Old Lucky" Hunter, who donated his half of the pot back to the Association. Thank you, Duncan. Duncan did have a perverted kind of fun in shooting Mark Blake’s heavy metal knock down target thing into pieces. Second high score was posted by Ken Pagano and Mark Blake took 3rd. The day was beautiful with lots of sun, no wind and, in general, a great way to spend a relaxing Sunday afternoon. If you haven’t come out to see what’s going on, come on out. If you would like to be called to be reminded of these oncoming events, please give me (432-2580) or Mark Blake (886-0142) a ring. The next shoot is scheduled for 18 February, 1:00. Meet at the range shack and see what interesting matches Mark has put together.

Financial: There is enough money in the land payment account to make the annual payment prior to 1 April. We do need an additional $1000 to make the liability insurance payment about that same time. If you wish to contribute to help make the 2008 land payment and/or the 2007 insurance payment, please make checks payable to the Eagle Cap Educational Alliance. The Alliance also needs cash to finish paying the cost of obtaining the 501 (c) 3 status–this allows us to give tax receipts for donations. If you want your donations, of any kind, to be tax deductible completion of these payments is essential. The Eagle Cap Educational Alliance is also seeking members. If you are interested in participating in this sister organization, contact Duncan Hunter at 569-2008–they have very a few short meetings during the year.

Spring Sale: The Cloverleaf Hall has been reserved for Saturday, 19 May for the Sale and an application has been made to the City of Enterprise for a Motel/Hotel tax money grant. Ralph Stewart is organizing this event and need help from the members. If you want to participate, call Ralph at 432-5052 to sign up for the plum supervisory jobs. Late comers will have to actually work. During the past 3 years, the Association earned close to $2000 from this 1 day event.

The 2nd Annual Machine Gun Shoot: 1000 high quality fliers have been printed and are ready for distribution. If you are attending a Gun Show anywhere, or just leaving town for far-away-places, please contact Eric at 432-2214 for copies to pass arround. This one promises to be bigger and better than our last event, but only if we advertise. If you want to work on getting this great event organized and running, contact Eric.

Range Development: Floyd McCadden and Tom Thornton have posted the Community Bank appreciation sign at the range gate. Fred Smith has generously donated two armor plate gongs ready to be hung out on the range. You can view them in the range shack at the next monthly shoot—good job Fred. New member, Lee Cutler, and I hung a new 15" gong out at the 100 yard line for the monthly shoot and general plinking. No armor piercing slugs please.

Schutzenboomer: The possibility of putting this new shoot on was again taken up at the January meeting. It is tentatively planned for sometime this fall. A committee to organize this event is needed. Contact Eric Kozowski 432-2214 for information, or to volunteer to help.

Classes: A Concealed Carry course is tentatively scheduled late in March. A Range Safety Officer course will be scheduled as soon as enough members pony up the bucks ($35 plus $3 for the SOPs). Contact Duncan Hunter at 569-2008 to pay your money to get on either of the two lists.

Ladies Activities: Karen Raminha is planning a kick-off meeting of women members at 5:00 PM, 5 February, at the Wallowa Brokers office on North Main, Joseph. Hopefully, a program of future event to meet the interests of our lady members will be hammered out. Karen assures me it won’t be 100% shooting or competition, but more in line with other outdoor interests, including survival, GPS use, orienteering, etc. Treasure hunting through map, compass and GPS use may also be an item for discussion.

Jokes: Duncan Hunter has complained to me that there are no jokes in the newsletter and the members are suffering from the lack of jokes. If you want jokes, send me your e-mail address and I will forward it to several people who seem to have nothing to do but forward jokes and other junk. They will fill your in-box daily with all kinds of stuff, and alleviate your suffering.

Friends of the NRA: The 2nd Wallowa County Friends of the NRA banquet/fund raiser is on the calendar for Saturday, 18 August at the Joseph Community Center. If you are a caterer, submit your proposal to Keith Newburn at 432-3231. If you would like to participate in this exciting event, Keith is your man. Last year the banquet generated about $7200, which ECSA will share part of through a range development grant.

Advertising:

If you have something you want to buy, sell, trade or give away, contact me (Tom Crooks) at 432-2580 and I will include it in the next newsletter.

Floyd McCadden (426-4204) has a Rocky Mt. Elk Foundation "2005 Gun of the Year" in excellent condition for sale. It is a camo stock, stainless, Remington 700 BDL in 7MM Short Action Ultra Mag (SAUM) with sling, scope mounts and rings, original box , plus 2 boxes of factory shells—all for a paltry $600. The box is worth about half of this by itself.

ECSA Gun Sales: Call Duncan Hunter at 569-2008 to look at the 2 remaining guns for sale. All proceeds go to the ECSA.

High Standard derringer in .22 LR (Donated by Carl Lincoln)- $250 -stick this in your sock.

Armalite AR 7 Explorer in .22 LR (Donated by Carl Lincoln)- $125 – easy packing for your trip

If you wish to donate a gun or other outdoor equipment to the ECSA, through the Eagle Cap Educational Alliance (ECEA) contact either myself, Duncan Hunter or Ralph Stewart. It will be offered for sale through Duncan’s shop or the Spring Sale, or both. We need your help in getting things to market for the benefit of the Association.
