Next meeting: Tuesday, 7:00PM, Jan. 9, ( 2nd Tuesday of the month)
Wallowa Mountain Properties Office Conference Room, Enterprise
Reminder: 2007 Dues are due. Please make out a check to ECSA and mail to PO Box 928, Joseph, OR 97846. Current dues are: Individual–$55, Couple–$75, Family–$100 and Youth (under 18)–$25. If you can document the donation of 12 hours to Association activities in 2006, these costs are reduced by one-half for adults. Youth members need to have donated 8 hours work to receive this reduction.
Financial: There is $2,153.79 in the checking account and $6,203.47 in the land payment account in December. We are going to have to come up with about $2000 to make this payment, due 1 April. An additional $1000 is needed to make the liability insurance payment about that same time. If you wish to contribute to help make the 2007 land payment and/or the insurance payment, please make checks payable to the Eagle Cap Educational Alliance.
Meetings and Monthly Shoots: If you would like to be called to be reminded of these oncoming events, please give me a ring at 432-2580 and I’ll take care of it. Only those who want to be reminded will be called.
Elections: The results are in. Treasurer–Lisa Allen, Vice-President–Eric Kozowski, Youth Activities Director –Bill Oliver, Training Director-- Steve Sharp, and Range Scheduling Director--Mark Blake. The new officers and Directors will assume the positions for 2 year terms commencing with the January 2007 meeting. Other officers and directors are: President–Tom Crooks, Secretary–Treva Crooks, Range Construction and Maintenance Director –Tom Thornton, Budget Director– Floyd McCadden, Publicity Director –Terry DeSpain, Marketing Director –John Joyce, Women’s Activities Director –Karen Raminha, and Grants Director –Duncan Hunter
Range Development: The north boundary fence alignment issue has been laid to rest and Bill Oliver will report on the results of his meeting with the James’ family at the January meeting. Floyd McCadden is working on a range direction sign to be posted at the junction of Ant Flat Road and Hwy 3.
Monthly Shoot: The 1st shoot (the Ed Brazelton Christmas Shoot) was held on 17 December at the range—a perfect beautiful sunny day to be out with a gun. There were about 15 members and guests there to eat the pot luck stew, drink the swill I made instead of coffee, and enjoy the outside and inside fires. We did a little shooting–potatoes, carrots, clay pigeons swinging on strings and some paper punching. Pete Kirkman initiated a $1.00 entry 4 shot contest using an unsighted .22 rifle and one sighter shot for each participant. This went around twice with the first pot won by a potential youth member and the second pot scooped up by your lucky president. I don’t like to brag, but I beat the rest of the shooters by a comfortable margin of one point. Mark Blake will be coordinating the monthly shoots and welcomes any suggestions and assistance. The next shoot will be 21 January (3rd Sunday), commencing at 1:00 PM and running until about 3:00 or 3:30. Mark has four interesting informal matches in mind and invites all members to break out their shooting irons, pack up some ammo and come out to see what’s going on. Bring a guest or two. Who knows..... it could be fun. Besides, you need some fresh air.
Schutzenboomer: The possibility of putting this new shoot on was discussed at the December meeting and will be taken up in the January meeting. If you are interested in precision, long range shooting at exploding targets, drag your butt into the meeting on 9 January and find out all about it. This shoot has the potential to make the Association some bucks and be a lot of fun. The pace will be a little different from the Machine Gun Shoot. Contact Eric Kozowski 432-2214 for information.
Classes: A Concealed Carry course was scheduled for 16-17 December. There were not enough people actually interested, so the course did not take place. Perhaps, next Spring will result in a thaw and a course may be rescheduled. A Range Safety Officer course will be scheduled as soon as enough members pony up the bucks ($35 plus $3 for the SOPs). Contact Duncan Hunter at 569-2008 to get on the list.
Range Gate Combination: The gate combination will be changed on 1 January. If you are a RSO and your dues are paid, contact either myself (432-2580) or Duncan Hunter (569-2008) for the new combination. When the new lock is installed on the Range House, it will be the same combination so the RSOs have access to the Range Box.
The Never Ending Raffle: We have 2 nice guns still to be raffled: a Browning Auto 5, 12 gauge, (with some engraving) in excellent condition donated by Ed Brazelton and a Stevens Mod 84 .22 bolt action rifle donated by Ralph Stewart. Tickets sales have been essentially stalled. If you are interested in taking this on, call me at 432-2580.
Spring Sale: Ralph Stewart has volunteered to organize the sale. Contact him after 5 January at 432-5052 if you want to help.
The 2nd Annual Machine Gun Shoot: Eric Kozowski has designed fliers and posters and now we need to get them distributed. If you are attending a Gun Show anywhere, please contact Eric at 432-2214 for copies to take with you. Shoot dates are 16 and 17 June. This one promises to be bigger and better than our last event, but only if we advertise. If you want to work on getting this great event organized and running, contact Eric and let him know. He needs worker bees and a few drones.
ECSA Gun Sales: Call Duncan Hunter at 569-2008 to look at the 2 remaining guns for sale. All proceeds go to the ECSA.
Armalite AR 7 Explorer in .22 LR (Donated by Carl Lincoln)- $125 –James Bond’s favorite helicopter shooter
High Standard derringer in .22 LR (Donated by Carl Lincoln)- $250 -surprise your mother-in-law
Membership Drive 2006: The 17 caliber Henry rifle was won by new member Ken Terrill. Not bad for a beginner. If you want to show Ken how to shoot this gun, buy him a box of ammo and he may let you have a couple of shots.
Advertising: If you have something you want to buy, sell, trade or give away, contact me (Tom Crooks) at 432-2580 and I will include it in the next newsletter.
Duncan Hunter has a nice selection of guns, both new and used, as well as a whole "fecal matter container" of accessories, for sale in his Allen Canyon Rd. shop. He has a large supply of reloading supplies, including powder and tools–all priced sorta right. Contact him at the shop or call him at 569-2008.
Floyd McCadden (426-4204) has a Rocky Mt. Elk Foundation "2005 Gun of the Year" in excellent condition for sale. It is a camo stock, stainless, Remington 700 BDL in 7MM Short Action Ultra Mag (SAUM) with sling, scope mounts and rings, original box , plus 2 boxes of factory shells—all for a paltry $600. The box is worth about half of this by itself.
